'Making a Scene' was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm glad for it. The book is overall solid and helpful. The exception for me would be the middle chapters.

The author makes a list of different scene types, and then writes a full chapter on every kind. She has to reinforce the same material about scenes in every chapter- that the scene Cited by: 2.

One of the hardest scenes to successfully write is the love scene. In your mind you may picture a moving, romantic interlude, but down on paper, you find it reads like melodrama—or worse. This can spell disaster for your novel, particularly if the entire book is building to this scene and it needs to be stupendous to carry the story.

It’s been a while since I last shared some of my favorite kissing scenes in books. Those who have been following my posts know that a kissing scene conveys something to me when it’s well written, when I can feel the chemistry between the characters (you can find my previous posts here: part one, part two, part three).Authors have their own ways of writing them and it’s.

The word ‘scene’ has multiple literary definitions. On one hand, it is ‘A place or setting regarded as having a particular character or making a particular impression.’ (OED).

When we talk of a scene as a unit of story structure, a scene is ‘A sequence of continuous action in a play, film, opera, or book’ (OED). It’s also ‘A.

From the dictionary it seems the word "scene" is appropriate for describing a part of a book: a sequence of continuous action in a play, film, opera, or book. "a scene from Tarantino's latest movie" To me, it feels natural to use the word for plays, films and operas but it sounds strange to use it when referring to a book.

Even a beautifully written love scene jars the reader when you put it in the wrong place, making her question the characters — and stopping the book in its tracks. Place the love scenes properly — and after the proper build-up — and half your job is done, because the reader will want your characters to get together just as much as the.

A scene transition takes characters and readers to a new location, a new time, or a new point of view. Transitions can also be used to show a character’s change in heart or frame of mind.
